Live Photo vs. video: which memory format should you keep?

Videos are made to hold time. Live Photos are made to bring a still moment back to life. They are not replacements for one another; each one is useful for a different kind of memory.

Use a video when the story needs time

Keep the video when sound, dialogue, a sequence of movement, or a longer scene matters. It gives you more room to revisit the full event.

Use a Live Photo when the feeling is in one beat

A Live Photo works especially well when one small motion carries the feeling: a glance, a splash, leaves moving in the wind, or a pet looking up. It makes a natural wallpaper because it begins as a still image.

You can keep both

Creating a Live Photo from a video does not need to replace the original. Save the Live Photo as the version you want close at hand, and keep the video as the fuller record.
